Although now forgotten, Oscar Linkson was possibly one of the most successful Barnet players in terms of his career progress.
Born in New Barnet in 1888, he was playing for Barnet Alston in 1907/08 when this photo was taken.
He signed for Manchester United in 1908 (debut v. Notttingham Forest 24/10/08) and was a regular full back with them with 55 league and 4 F A Cup appearances, including their 1910/11 championship season.
By 1913 he was with Shelbourne in Ireland and later QPR (war time season 1915/16).
Oscar died in France in December 1916, aged 28 (killed in action).
I was very pleased to hear from one of his descendants recently, researching her family history, and I was able to send the pictures I had.
